NANDO'S

AFRICA
INSTALLATION
5 interior designers, 5 instaLLations
As part of the Nando's Portal to Africa launch at Victoria Yards, Tracy curated an exhibition featuring five installations by leading interior design studio’s Reddeco, HK Studio, Egg Designs, Tinlab and Studio LeeLynch. Each of these studios has collaborated with Nando's to realise several ‘one-of-a-kind’ Nando's casas. And their installations were all about bringing together the work of various South African designer-makers represented on the website.
‘Whether at one of our local or international casas, there's a special magic that happens when interior designers combine the pieces from the curated collection on Nando's Portal to Africa,’ says Tracy. ‘They start playing with furniture, lighting and art pieces in an interior setting – and a unique expression of a Southern African aesthetic emerges.'
The rich and layered launch exhibition not only shared the curated vision of some of our interior designers, it also highlighted specific makers that strongly represent the forward thrust to the future of South African design. It's an incredible evolving story, a beautiful optimistic expression of where we are as a nation.’
One of the qualities I love most about South African design is the inclusion of craft elements, which seamlessly connect with the pieces generated by current methods of furniture production. Through the inclusion of craft we acknowledge the past, but by juxtaposing these handmade elements with cutting-edge technology we create a new and unique chapter, one which consciously highlights our history and journey as SA designer-makers. – Tracy Lynch, Studio Leelynch
